Krystal Allen is an artist of style and character, who primarily paints watercolor landscapes. Each of her exceptional contemporary realistic paintings captures a moment in time, filled with rich color and natural light. She is entirely self-taught in the watercolor medium, and has spent the last 18 years refining her skills as a watercolorist. Using multiple layers of washes, she brings out the depth and mood of a subject. After the preliminary washes are finished, she adds extensive dry brush detail work to bring out the textures and nuances of the subject she is trying to capture. Most of her paintings are done in a studio with the help of photos, drawings and paintings, but when the opportunity arises, she loves to be out in the field, painting plein-air. Her exceptional landscapes reflect her dynamic approach to watercolors and the respect that she has for the watercolor medium.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area she lives and paints mostly in west Marin County just north of San Francisco. This area, being rural and very picturesque, is a prime location for painting and capturing the California light.The convergence of ocean and continent, bays and mountains make the natural light and topography a painter's delight. Other favorite locations, such as the Sierra Mountains, the Great Basin, and the wonders of Hawaii, also contribute a rich source of inspiration for her work. Being surrounded by exceptional beauty, she is constantly inspired to share her luminous, watercolor visions of the world with everyone. All of the original paintings are done on Lanaquarelle or Arches, 300 lb or 140 lb hot pressed watercolor paper using Windsor Newton and Cotman watercolor paints.
Krystal's fine art Giclee' prints are all done using the highest quality paper and inks, to ensure the longevity of the print. Each painting is duplicated as close to the original's size as possible in order to maintain all of the details and feeling of the piece. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each fine art giclee print, verifying the number and process from the printer.
Printed on Somerset Velvet Enhanced Radiant White, 255g/m2 weight paper with Lysonic E archival inks, on an Epson 3000 Digital Printer. All prints are sprayed with a UV inhibitor to ensure longetivity, and are shipped with an acid free backing and are shrinkwrapped. Pieces can be framed by the artist upon request.
