Poppy, a table-top, smaller scale (17"H x 24" L x 9"W) version of Buttercup, was a greater challenge than first anticipated. Anchoring the image to the base by painting the legs as tree trunks, tied the entire piece together. The effect is to give the viewer a glimpse through the trees to a golden hillscape typical of rural Northern California. The base is painted as a bed of leaves and poppies in dappled light. |
